About the Practice

Dr. Richard A. Sousa received his D.D.S. degree from New York University college of Dentistry. He was considered by his teachers and peers to be one of the finest clinicians to graduate in his class. In recognition of this, he received the Sigma Epsilon Delta award for excellence in fixed prosthodontics.

After graduation from dental school, he continued his education at N.Y.U. in a one year residency in cranio-mandibular and TMJ disorders.

Dr. Sousa has a strong commitment to continuing education. He is regularly invited to lecture to both university and study groups. In addition to teaching, he regularly attends advanced courses to maintain his own expertise in the areas of prosthodontics and occlusion, periodontics and implant dentistry.

Prior to dental school Dr. Sousa was a dental technician. At an early age he started as an apprentice in his father's laboratory. Working from the bottom up, he became highly accomplished in the laboratory phase of dentistry.

In 1985, he became a Certified Dental Technologist and still continues his association with the American society of Master Dental Technologists. His years of experience in the lab made his decision to continue on to dental school a logical next step.

He uses the skills he developed as a master ceramist to provide his patients a level of esthetic and creative excellence that is unparalleled.

Dr. Sousa spends many hours in the office laboratory customizing and adding his own perfecting touches to each case.

Diversifying his studies in to periodontics and implant dentistry has enabled him to provide his patients with total dental care. This is especially important to those who want a doctor who can take charge of all of their dental needs.

Dr. Sousa is a member of the American Dental Association, the New York State Dental Society and the Academy Of General Dentistry. He is a Fellow of The Northeastern Gnathological Society. He also holds memberships in The Academy of osseointegration, and The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Because of his strong background and broad range of skills, Dr. Sousa has become recognized as one of the area’s most innovative and capable dentists.
